Operating experience and close customer feedback have shown the need for more advanced types of baths. The personnel of healthcare facilities from different regions of the country have repeatedly drawn our attention to the problem of cleaning the instruments containing internal cavities due to the complexity and working time for manual cleaning method. The development team was tasked with creating a bath that maximally facilitates the work of medical personnel, namely bath with increased working container, a system for automatically filling the container with washing solution and the ability to clean the instruments with internal cavities. The result of research was a new family of ultrasound baths ВУ-12-"Я-ФП", model ВУ-12-"Я-ФП"-04-3

The top-of-the-range bath of the family is ВУ-12-Я-ФП-04-3 with the following functions implemented:

Possibility of simultaneous cleaning of the instruments containing cavities and channels and conventional instruments. Cleaning is carried out by two methods: ultrasonic and hydrodynamic (stream of washing solution). These methods can be applied both simultaneously and separately (model ВУ-12-"Я-Ф-ФП"-04-3).

Independent filling of the container with water from the cold water draw-off and with concentrated solution from the external container in selected percentage ratio in the range from 0.1% to 3%. Medical personnel no longer need to manually mix concentrated solution with water to obtain a detergent composition, cause this function is performed by the built-in dosage device.

Automatic shutdown of taking liquids upon reaching necessary operating level. The sensor located in the bath is responsible for this.

Issue of sound signal when the liquid level in the bath is lower than permissible value.

Ultrasonic cleaning evenly distributed over the entire of the washing liquid volume is achieved by twelve ultrasonic heads installed at the bottom.

The option of controlling the duration of ultrasonic cleaning in the range from one to ninety nine minutes.

Hydrodynamic cleaning of instruments containing cavities and channels with washing solution is carried out using six nozzles located on the bath wall with various adapters. The flow of washing solution with total performance of twelve liters per minute supplied through these nozzles, cleans organic and inorganic contaminants in the instruments internal cavities and channels.

The option of maintaining preset temperature of the washing solution in the container within the range from room temperature to plus sixty degrees Celsius. The function is provided by integrated digitally controlled heaters.

The option of removing the spent solution from the container using a draining cock located on the back of the body. It has atmospheric solution drainage system.

The whole set of instruments used in healthcare facilities can be divided into containing and not containing internal cavities and channels. While there is usually no problem with the latter during cleaning before sterilization, usual-type ultrasound machines of different manufacturers cope with it, the situation with cannulated instruments differs. Before sterilization (for example, in case of hot-air sterilization), this type of instruments requires mandatory manual cleaning by various bottle brushes, which is not so convenient to a certain extent and has the possibility of traumatic damage to the hands, when not used properly. It also takes a certain time, so only one instrument is cleaned for one cycle.

This problem is successfully solved by the innovative equipment of Ferroplast Medical LLC, ultrasound bath ВУ-12-"Я-ФП"-04-3. The combination of two cleaning methods in this product (ultrasonic and hydrodynamic) allows for preparing an instruments with cavities and channels of any shape and size for sterilization. At the same time, up to six different instruments with cavities and up to several tens of conventional instruments (according to the basket capacity) can be cleaned simultaneously in the ultrasound bath ВУ-12-"Я-ФП"-04-3.

Setting-up procedures.

Preparation of Ultrasound Bath (US Bath) ВУ-12-"Я-ФП"-04-3 for operation:

Position US bath ВУ-12-"Я-ФП"-04-3 on horizontal surface with a slope of no more than ten degrees.

Connect the product to 220V mains. The socket shall have a grounding contact.

Screw hose fitting in the drain tap. Make sure that the drain tap is closed. Connect the hose by positioning its opposite end in the water draining system (sewage).

Connect the water taking hose to the cold-water supply point on the rear panel. Type of threaded connection is ½ inch. If the water quality is unsatisfactory, it is advisable to install an external filter element (purchased separately).

Connect concentrated solution taking hose on the front panel. Place the opposite end of the hose in the container with washing solution concentrate, respectively. The container with the washing solution concentrate shall contain at least one liter of solution.

Turn on the device by pressing the "Power" button on the rear panel of the US Bath. When turned on, a warning signal shall be heard that there is no liquid in the container.

Use the "+" and "-" keys on the left control panel to select the necessary concentration of the washing solution. The concentration of choice is from 0.1 to three percent. Press "Start" key in the "Taking Liquid" section. US Bath will automatically take required amount of liquid and stop. To speed up the start of cleaning mode, it is advisable to take water of required temperature because the built-in heater is intended only to maintain the liquid temperature at a given value.

Example of operation

Let us consider an example of the apparatus operation during ultrasonic cleaning of the instruments without internal cavities and channels:

Position the instruments in the mesh so that no part of the instrument protrudes above the liquid level in the bath. After placing the mesh in the container, close US Bath with cover.

Select required liquid temperature on the right control panel. Actuate heaters by simultaneous pressing "+" and "-" keys in "Liquid Temperature" section. At that, the display shows the current solution temperature. If the liquid temperature is lower than the preset temperature and heating mode is active, then LED located in the center of the right control panel will glow red. When the preset temperature is reached, LED changes its color to green.

Use "+" and "-" keys to select required duration of ultrasonic cleaning in "Treatment Time" section on the right control panel. Time depends on the degree of contamination and the number of instruments to be treated. Usually effective cleaning requires five to twenty-five minutes of treatment at average temperature of forty degrees.

Enable the cleaning mode by pressing "Start" key on the right control panel.

Let us consider an example of the apparatus operation during hydrodynamic cleaning of the instruments containing internal cavities and channels:

Secure the instruments to be cleaned in adapters of the appropriate diameter or directly on the hoses.

Spread out the instruments fastened to the hoses in the mesh for instruments so that no part of the instrument protrudes above the liquid level in the bath.

Switch on the instruments cleaning using the "start circulation" key.

As a rule, a working interval of fifteen to twenty minutes is enough for effective cleaning.

If necessary, it is recommended to combine these two cleaning modes for treatment of different types of instruments to save solution and working time. Also, the combination of modes provides for a more effective cleaning of instruments containing internal cavities and channels.

The spent solution drain tap is provided in US Bath to change the washing solution. The tap is located on the rear body wall.
